Its debut last year was the buzz of the comic strip industry. Now in its second year, Mark Tatulli's Lio is making headlines once again, as Variety reports that the wildly popular dark comic strip is being optioned for a live-action feature film! Producer David Kirschner, whose credits include the "American Tail" and "Curious George" films, will bring Lio to life with the help of producing partner Corey Sienega. Read all about it here.
Lio has been a huge hit since it debuted in 100+ newspapers in May 2006. Since then the strip's audience has grown to include the readership of 275+ newspapers all over the world. The first Lio collection, Happiness is a Squishy Cephalopod, was released in August.

does this mean tatulli won't have much input? also, will it remain true to the vision of "silent" animation?

Such a great strip ... hope they can capture the voice of it.

I don't if holywood will alow a silent film... but you certainly can't capture the voice (That is, the voice you think the kid might have.)
Awesome strip though! I wish I had found out about it sooner.

This comic strip is so not funny. They should have Jim Carrey play the father, then I will go see this movie.

If you like Jim Carrey, it shows how bad your sense of humor is. It's a reverse endorsement of the strip. Nice going!
PS: It;s not 1995 anymore.

"will it remain true to the vision of "silent" animation?"
I hope so.

Yeah, "Lio" is the best and Jim Carrey is bad.

Another great property that'll probably get ruined by Hollywood. Here's hoping it remains faithful to the source material

The facination with this poorly drawn, unfunny strip is surprising to me. I am not surprised that Hollywood is trying to make a movie about this. Hollywood has been out of ideas for years now and with this in concept they truly are grasping for the last straws

Way to let Hollywood have it, Jim! I don't think they'll ever recover once they've heard that YOU don't approve of their work. I wish you were the King of Hollywood!

I believe you are mistakened mark tatulli's work is inspirational and beautiful. It is unique in my opinon and several others. I think you are just jealous and Hypocritical about it because you are not an artist, that for you don't understand the beauty of his work. I find it paethic that you think you are worthy to judge his work.
