Pinkerton National Park has all of the wildlife you'd expect to encounter in the serene environs of the forest: a fox who loves kickball, a divorced rabbit with a drinking habit, a guinea pig who wears kitchen utensils for antlers...You know, your standard woodland denizens.
Pinkerton is Mike Witmer's new strip, launching on GoComics today!

Nice! Looks interesting.

Regarding your comic strip of 11/7:
I am Choctaw. While many Native Americans still refer to themselves and each other as "Indian" or "Indians", it is generally inappropriate for those outside of native communities to refer to us in this way. In a different context, would you consider it appropriate to refer to African Americans as "colored" in your comic strip? Please pay closer attention to your word choices.

This is yet another example of how people take a perfectly harmless, humorous, fun outlet for everyone and turn it against the world. I'm African American, black, colored, however you would like to put it. Had the artist somehow worked a "revered by people of color" I would still find it harmless and funny.

I don't care much about individual words in any strip. The overall measure is a strip's combination of words and art. The art in this strip is fairly good, but the writing is dull and predictable.

Kendra, I've been following Pinkerton for about three months over on it's official site. Everyone has different tastes but I can assure you that Pinkerton is definitely not dull. From reading Mr. Witmer's blog, I've gathered that the first few strips here on Go are very early "character introduction" strips. You're right. They're good. But they get a whole lot better as time goes on. If you're into whacky, outlandish cartoons just give it a little time. Pinkerton has a Sherman's Lagoon meets Bloom County feel to it.

I second Ryan's comments. Pinkerton is awesome and I can proudly say I was there from the beginning. Most strips have multiple bits of hilarity, and the characters all have distinct voices and trademarks. Head on over to www.pinkertonpark.com and check it out from the beginning (there's only 72 strips up through today, so it shouldn't take too long.

I was so disappointed when 44UA went into reruns, then that turned into elation after Pinkerton Park went into full swing. Great strip Wit, highly recommended for any new readers.

I agree. Pinkerton is an awesome comic strip. I have also been following it on Witmer's Pinkerton site, and I can say that it is excellent in terms of humor, art, and characters. Pinkerton deserves print syndication, ASAP.

I'm late to the party. I just wanted to drop by and thank everyone for the support so far. Pinkerton is a lot of fun for me and, hopefully, it will be for you too.
I'm not naive enough to think that everyone will enjoy Pinkerton. I appreciate Kendra's honesty and respect her opinion. The only thing I can hope is that new readers give it a fair shake before writing Pinkerton off.
Thanks again, everybody!

I also support Kendra's right to her opinion. I also encourage her to go over to the site and check out all of the cartoons. I was not a big supporter at first because I was a die hard 44UA fan and have a difficult time with change. Seriously. Ask my mother and the green drapes she tried to throw away. I still haven't gotten over that. I was eight. Anyway, I have over time come to love the strip almost as much as 44UA. I like the kids being taped to the wall. Good place for them. But I do believe in time you will see what the rest of us already know.
To Twinriver I just want to say this: Seriously?!! That's all you got from any of the strips? *throws up hands and shakes head* Thanks for the lecture. Reminded me of something my grandfather would say and in quite the same way, ordering him in what to say instead of politely asking. That's all I'm going to say about that because it really doesn't deserve to be dignified with much more of a response. I don't get people these days. *walking away still shaking head and rolling eyes in amazement*

I made a comment on the Pinkerton Park web site. I wanted to post here also. When all the strips are read in order they make much more sense and are very funny. I also am an American Indian (Cherokee). I personally have never been bothered to be called an Indian, in fact I am proud of it. I am enjoying this addition to gocomics.

How touching. I see you've rallied your friends and family to come to your rescue again. Pathetic.

Awww. Is someone a sour puss? Pinkerton is a good strip. People should read it. So, rather than sitting here sounding like a jealous four year old why not just go read another comic strip? Wouldn't that make more sense? I have never understood why there are some folks out there who just love to bash something successful. I hear it here (and on other places) when any new comic launches.
We get it, you're smarter than everyone else. You've got an eccentric sense of humor. Super. Let people have their moment.

I like the carton too. My only objection is that it's black and white.

Well, I gave it a chance. I read all 80. I laughed once (#61). The strips are not amusing, the storylines are flaccid and weak and plodding, the characters have no developed personality (why did it take 69 strips to explain the hamster-moose??). Weak weak comic strip with way too many dated references (seriously, Don King??)
Posted by: Chief | November 21, 2007 at 07:57 AM
Well, that's your opinion. Personally, I laugh at nearly every "Pinkerton" strip, I find the storylines to be clever and entertaining, and I find the characters to be quirky and very recognizable. I'll concede the dated references thing, though...
Still a great strip. Chief, you may not like it, but at least you gave it a shot, and that's all anyone can really ask. As for #61, I won't deny that it is one of the best that Witmer has done, including all strips for both this AND "44UA." "How badly might that be?" Hilarious! Keep up the good work Wit!

And Webmaster of the RIGS group, I don't know about what it's like on GoComics, but on PinkertonPark.com, the strip is in color for one out of the five installments published each week. (Usually on a Friday, but this week it was on Thursday.) Anyway, newspaper strips only do color once per seven strips, and two of the other panel mammals never do color, so I'm just happy that "Pinkerton" is ever in color.

Pinkerton is still rockin' out the funny consistently. Great job Wit.
