We've been getting great feedback from fans about In the Sticks, the new comic strip by Nathan Cooper that made its debut October 12 on GoComics.com.
Those who've been following the strip daily know that In the Sticks is not being released in typical fashion. Beginning with the special Sunday edition that ran on October 11, Universal Uclick is offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at the editorial processes involved in the development of a new syndicated comic strip. Over its first three weeks, the strip will alternate between character designs from Cooper's sketchbook, rough strip sketches with editorial notes, and finished art.
"We're doing something special with the launch of In the Sticks, something we've never done before when introducing a new comic strip," said Universal Uclick vice president John Glynn. "We're offering the audience an inside look at the work that goes into the creation of a new feature - how the cartoonist comes up with ideas, how the characters evolve, how the stories take shape, and so on. It's a fascinating process, and it's one that visitors to the site are really going to enjoy."
In Cooper, Universal Uclick found a cartoonist who was eager to share his stories, and his strip's story, with new readers.
"Having created In the Sticks and experienced this evolution firsthand, I'm really excited to let fans see how the strip grew from an idea to a finished concept," said Cooper. "It's a been an incredibly rewarding experience, and the payoff is a strip that I'm proud to call my own."
In the Sticks is the story of an ex-pro golfer named Del who buys the golf course once owned by his great-grandfather in the hopes of restoring it to its past glory. While Del tends to the greens at the Blooming Dogleg Country Club, he's kept company by Cosmo, the poetry-writing blue jay, Dewey, the lovable bear who sometimes caddies for the club's members, and Flip, the misanthropic beaver.
The daily strip will make its debut in newspapers across the country in early 2010.

I am a collector of Love is... comic strip for 32 years and I love the strip here, BUT I was wondering who posts it online each day? We have had issues with the size at time's being so small.
Let me explain why.... When you take such a small picture of anything and try to Enlarge it, you get a bunch of blurred pixels for the most part. It looses it's clarity.
The panel is usually in a large size, which also is wonderful for us old collector's to see easily.
We also print them out and store them in plastic sleeves that are made for one size. "Large". The collection as a whole looks best when it is all kept at one size. "Large". That is the way the panel is 99% of the time, posted as.
Can we PLEASE get someone to investigate the Love is... page and see why it keeps coming up as a tiny panel instead sometimes??
There are a bunch of us who would Deeply appreciate someone checking into this, or at lease respond to our "Contact Us" forms we write to GoComics about this issue.
You would not believe all of the collectors of this strip Love is.. alone, all over the world that come here"HERE" to collect this panel eachday. You would be doing all of them a Great service by making the panels only in the large size.
Many would join this site and become a paying Genius member, but because of this frustration alone, they will not join.
Thank you so much for your time!
