The Kenosha Festival of Cartooning started in 2011 in Kenosha, Wis., as a project of passion, creating an environment where cartoonists came together with their fans for a mutual admiration and respect for the creativity behind cartooning. There was such a positive response to last year’s festival that the event is returning for a second year on September 27 – 29.
GoComics creators Greg Cravens (The Buckets & HUBRIS!), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Dave Coverly (Speed Bump), Michael Jantze (The Norm Classics) and Tom Racine (Tall Tale Radio podcast) will attend this year’s festival. Festival events include classroom lectures at area universities, evening speakers, cartooning classes, artist demonstrations, behind-the-scenes looks at each creators’ work and philanthropy outreach. The festival concludes with a silent auction to benefit the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin's Kenosha Clinic. The Kenosha Festival of Cartooning is partnering with the National Cartoonist Society Foundation to host the silent auction and the “More Than Funny” art exhibit featuring more than 40 pieces of original comic art.
This cartooning festival was established to allow fans to meet the faces behind their favorite cartoons, see how they create their art, hear why they became cartoonists and how they strove to achieve their dreams. GoComics creators will answer questions, tell their stories and help to influence the next generation of cartoonists. The Kenosha Festival of Cartooning truly is an experience that fans will not want to miss. If you live in the Chicago, Milwaukee or Madison areas, we highly recommend that you quickly register online to attend this year’s festival because space is limited and it's a reasonable drive for you!
