John McPherson started the strip while working as a mechanical engineer, and who could have imagined the impact it would have over the years? Close to Home celebrates the plight of the everyman (and woman) by taking normal situations and bringing something special into the mix. McPherson's eye for the unusual and flair for the weird has resulted in a strip that never loses its ability to entertain. The cartoon actually started in 1990, and was picked up by Universal Press Syndicate in 1992. Since then, it has graced the pages of newspapers around the globe, as well as branching out into a successful greeting card line and calendar line, published through Andrews McMeel Publishing. --Shena Wolf, Close to Home Editor
