People in the immediate earshot of my workspace might disagree, but I consider Jerry Garcia to be one of the greats. His psychedelic stylings and expressive vocals take up a lot of space on my iTunes, especially the impeccable "So Many Roads" box set (streamable on Spotify). So imagine my chagrin when I saw this Argyle Sweater rough sketch from Scott Hilburn.
I wrote back: "I don't care if he is a friend of the devil, there's no way Jerry is in hell."
Needless to say, I was relieved when I checked my GoComics feed today and found this instead:
So thanks, Scott, for placing Mr. Garcia at the pearly gates rather than the fiery bowels of Hades. I feel like the joke worked out pretty well this way, too, in spite of my meddling. For the Deadheads among you, let me reward you with one of my favorite Jerry tracks of all time, his 1975 reading of Dylan's "Positively 4th Street."
Have a great weekend!
