I’m head over heels in love … with my roommate’s dog.
Unfortunately, when graduation rolls around in May, I’ll have to part ways with Nana the beloved golden retriever. Nana has changed the lives of my roommates and I so drastically that we have discussed tactics on how to secretly clone her before we have to part ways. A friend recently told me that when humans pet dogs, both the heart rate of the human and the dog are lowered. I fully believe this. Every day when I come home, Nana greets me with loads of kisses.
Her unconditional love is an instant antidote for the blues. She is always willing to keep my spot on the couch warm for me and when I don’t want to move her, she makes a great pillow. When my sock is missing its match, Nana always seems to find it (or maybe that’s the reason for the missing sock in the first place.) The best part about Nana is that she doesn’t expect anything in return, so when we give her a scratch behind the ears or ice cube to play with her love for us grows even more.
Last week, Brian Basset did a series of Red and Rover comic strips about why we love dogs. I’ve always found Red and Rover to be particularly relatable, because of my relationship with Nana, so I especially loved this group of strips.
A personal favorite of mine:
Do you love dogs? Why? Tell us about your relationship with your pet.
