Returning after a short hiatus is the "Comics Sherpa Pick of the Week!" Think of it as us giving out a scouting report on who might be the next player to make the pros in a few years. Of course, there's no guarantees, no promises ... for every Peyton Manning, there was a Ryan Leaf. But, you too can become a comics scout by visiting our Comics Sherpa site.
This week's highlight is "Adventures of Marty and Turkey" by Bill Beard. In Beard's own words:
Marty and Turkey are a creation of Bill Beard (me!). On January 1, 2010, I decided to test myself; I wanted to see how long I could draw a daily comic strip, a goal of mine since I was a boy. My creation is Marty, the New Years baby. Born on January 1st, Marty gets progressively older as the year passes by, until he becomes Father Time on December 31st. In November of 2010 I created Turkey, who was meant to be Marty’s Thanksgiving dinner, but due to an overwhelming number of people intervening, I spared Turkey and he became Marty’s sidekick. Now the two of them share adventures, meet new characters, and have general goofy fun. I also throw in pop culture references, videos, links, and other nonsense that I find interesting and amusing. I hope you enjoy my daily cartoon!
Something that I really enjoy about Beard's work on "Adventures of Marty and Turkey" are the changing angles or physical viewpoints in which he shares the characters. The colors are vivid with fast-paced storylines and a narrative full of quick one-liners. I highly recommend it.
