This week's pick comes from our Editorial Services Manager, Patty: I love comics that make me smile -- Calvin and Hobbes, for example. I love comics that make me think -- Doonesbury comes to mind. But the main reason I've sought out comic strips ever since I was little -- battling my siblings for the first crack at the Sunday funnies -- is to laugh. To bust-a-gut, fall out of my chair laugh. And The Flying McCoys does just that for me. Thank you, Glenn and Gary McCoy, for inspiring me to sit on the floor while I read your comic daily. That way, I don't actually FALL out of my chair …
Being on the floor also makes it easier to crawl over to the window to be sure they're not out there looking in, because so many of their comics have me convinced that, in fact, they're writing and drawing about ME.
I discovered recently that Glenn and I have matching Led Zeppelin T-shirts -- how cool is that?! He looks way more rockin' in it than I do, however … because he doesn't wear "mom jeans."
Most mornings when I leave for work, I can't remember if I've closed the garage door. So I turn around for that "drive of shame" back to the house to find out that, in fact, I did close the garage door.
Glenn and Gary grew up in a family of headlocking, hilarious brothers. I think it's quite brilliant, then, that they both grew up to be successful, award-winning cartoonists.
No one is beyond their pen's reach. They skew police, the judicial system and nature all within the span of a week.
The Flying McCoys is just -- simply -- hilarious. And isn't that the best thing about a comic strip?
