Tomorrow (May 1) kicks off National Barbecue Month, and I thought I’d use this opportunity to pay homage to a place where barbecue reigns supreme year-round; a place that’s not only home to me (and the GoComics headquarters!), but also home to some of the best barbecue in the country. Yes, everyone, I’m talking about Kansas City!
Kansas City has an excellent culinary scene, but I’ve yet to find anything as finger lickin’ good as a pulled pork sandwich from Arthur Bryant’s. There are many different spots, all with different vibes and specialties, from Gates Bar-B-Q and Rosedale Barbeque to Q39 and Jack Stack, all insanely delicious. Rover knows what I’m talking about:
There are few things in life that I love more than Kansas City, barbecue and comics. It is rare to find all three in one place, so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered CowTown by Charlie Podrebarac! A beautifully hand-drawn strip that highlights everything wonderful about Kansas City, with an extra emphasis on the barbecue, CowTown instantly had me hooked!
Not only is CowTown an awesome comic, it’s also a store in Kansas City that sells award-winning barbecue sauce! Seriously, two of their sauces have placed first at the American Royal Barbecue Contest, so you know CowTown is a barbecue authority.
Plus, whether you’re a Kansas City enthusiast or not, this strip is just downright funny!
After reading this, if, like me, your mouth is salivating for some incredible barbecue, then what are you waiting for? Hop in the car, throw on some “Kansas City” by The Beatles and hit the road! I’ll meet you at Joe’s Kansas City to celebrate National Barbecue Month with a “Z-Man” sandwich that will change your life!
